Mashing

The process of soaking crushed malted grain in hot water to activate enzymes that convert starches into fermentable sugars. Mash temperatures typically range from 148-158 °F (64-70 °C), with lower temperatures favoring a drier, more fermentable wort and higher temperatures producing fuller-bodied beer.
