Wort

The sweet, sugar-rich liquid extracted from the mash before fermentation. Wort contains fermentable sugars, proteins, hop compounds, and minerals that yeast will later convert into beer. Gravity readings of wort (OG) predict the potential alcohol content of the finished beer.
