Carlsberg, founded by J.C. Jacobsen in 1847, revolutionized brewing science. The Carlsberg Laboratory isolated the first pure lager yeast culture (Saccharomyces pastorianus) and gifted it to the brewing world. Carlsberg is now one of the world's largest brewing groups.
