Anchor Brewing, saved from closure by Fritz Maytag in 1965, is widely considered the first American craft brewery. Anchor Steam Beer, a California Common style, became an icon. Though the brewery closed in 2023 and was acquired by Chobani, its legacy as the craft beer pioneer endures.
