Lacing

The patterns of foam residue left on the inside of a glass as beer is consumed. Good lacing — rings or sheets of dried foam clinging to the glass — indicates healthy foam-positive proteins, adequate hop content, and a properly cleaned glass. Belgian ales and well-hopped beers are known for attractive lacing.
