Pilsner Urquell ('The Original Source of Pilsner') brewed the world's first pale lager on 5 October 1842. Josef Groll's revolutionary golden beer, using Bohemian soft water, Saaz hops, and Moravian malt, spawned a style that now accounts for over 80% of global beer production.
