Double IPA

نظرة عامة
Vinnie Cilurzo is often credited with brewing one of the first examples at Blind Pig around 1994, and Russian River Pliny the Elder, from 2000, became its benchmark. Intensely hoppy and fairly strong, it forgoes the rich malt and residual sweetness of a barleywine, staying clean and dry without harshness. Strength runs a serious 7.5 to 10.0 percent alcohol with 60 to 100 IBU and a pale 6 to 14 SRM colour. The style pushed hop bitterness and flavour to extremes while keeping the beer drinkable. Bell's Hop Slam, Stone Ruination, and Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA are further examples. BJCP designates it 22A.
