Excise Tax

A federal and state tax levied on beer production or importation. U.S. federal excise tax is $3.50 per barrel for the first 60,000 barrels for domestic craft breweries (reduced rate under the Craft Beverage Modernization Act). Larger producers and imports pay $16-18 per barrel. State excise rates vary widely.
