Description

A rich, characterful, pale Czech lager with considerable malt and hop character and a long, rounded finish. Complex yet well-balanced and refreshing. The Pilsner Urquell style.

Arôme

Moderate to prominent Saaz hop aroma with floral, spicy, herbal notes. Medium to medium-high rich Pilsner malt sweetness. Clean lager fermentation with possible faint sulfur. Complex and inviting.

Aspect

Rich golden yellow, 3.5-6 SRM. Brilliant to clear. Dense, creamy white head with excellent retention.

Saveur

Rich, round Pilsner malt flavor with a firm but elegant Saaz hop bitterness. Spicy, herbal hop flavor. Dry, bitter finish with a long aftertaste. Complex and highly drinkable.

Texture en bouche

Medium body with high carbonation. Creamy and round from soft Bohemian water. Slight astringency from hops. Highly drinkable despite complexity.

Histoire

The original Pilsner, created in 1842 in Plzeň (Pilsen), Bohemia (now Czech Republic) by Bavarian brewer Josef Groll. The combination of Saaz hops, soft Bohemian water, and pale malt produced the world's first golden lager. Pilsner Urquell remains the style archetype and spawned nearly all modern pale lager traditions.
