Description

A traditional malty dark German lager. Characterized by its smooth, malty richness and layers of bread, toast, and chocolate flavors.

Arôme

Rich malt aroma with chocolate, bread crust, and caramel notes from Munich malt. Low to moderate herbal or floral German hop aroma. Very clean lager fermentation. Smooth and malty.

Aspect

Dark amber to dark brown, 14-28 SRM. Clear with ruby highlights. Creamy off-white to tan head with good retention.

Saveur

Rich malt flavor with chocolate, caramel, and dark bread notes from Munich malt. Low German hop bitterness. Clean, slightly sweet to dry finish. No harsh roast. Smooth and satisfying.

Texture en bouche

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth and creamy from Munich malt. No harshness from roast.

Histoire

One of the oldest Munich brewing traditions, predating Pilsner by centuries. Dark lager was the dominant Munich beer style before the 1894 introduction of Helles. Munich Dunkel represents the original expression of Munich's renowned dark malting expertise. Spaten and Ayinger are notable producers.
