Beer History
Burton-upon-Trent
An English town renowned as the historic capital of British brewing, famed for its mineral-rich water high in calcium sulfate (gypsum). Burton water accentuates hop bitterness and dryness, making it ideal for pale ales and IPAs. The practice of 'Burtonizing' — adding gypsum to brewing water — is named for this town.
