A rich, dark, malty Czech lager with a roast character that can vary from almost absent to quite prominent. Malty with an interesting complexity.
Aroma
Rich malt aroma with dark bread, caramel, and chocolate notes. Roast character ranges from nearly absent to prominent. Low Saaz hop aroma. Clean fermentation. Complex and malt-forward.
Tampilan
Dark copper to very dark brown, 17-35 SRM. Clear with ruby highlights. Off-white to tan head with good retention.
Rasa
Rich malt flavor with dark bread, caramel, and chocolate. Roast character present but not harsh. Moderate Saaz bitterness. Semi-sweet to moderately dry finish. Complex and satisfying.

Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Smooth and slightly creamy. No harshness.

One of the oldest Czech lager traditions, predating the pale Pilsner revolution of 1842. Dark Czech lagers represent the original Bohemian brewing heritage. Brewed in the tmavé (dark) category. Bernard and Budvar are notable producers.
