A category of beers fermented with bottom-fermenting Saccharomyces pastorianus yeast at cool temperatures (45-55 °F / 7-13 °C), followed by extended cold conditioning. Lagers are characterized by clean, crisp flavors with minimal ester or phenol character. The most consumed beer type worldwide.
