Refractometer
An optical instrument that measures sugar concentration in a liquid by measuring how much light bends as it passes through the sample. Brewers use refractometers for quick gravity readings from just a few drops of wort. Post-fermentation readings require a correction factor to account for alcohol's effect on refraction.
