A malt-focused, generally caramelly beer with perhaps a few esters and occasionally a butterscotch-like aftertaste. Hops are only to moderate bitterness.

Low to moderate caramel and lightly toasty malt aroma. Very low hop aroma. Possible low fruity esters and faint butterscotch. Malt-focused and gentle.

Pale amber to light brown, 10-25 SRM. Clear. Tan to off-white head with moderate retention.

Brewed to be consumed in quantity with minimal intoxicating effect. Historically the everyday Scottish working-class beer.
