Geschichte

Originally brewed for export to the Russian Imperial court in the 18th century, with Barclay Perkins brewery in London being a key producer. The higher alcohol preserved it for the Baltic voyage. Baltic Porter tradition is related but lager-based. Modern American craft Imperial Stout (Goose Island Bourbon County, Founders KBS) evolved this into a barrel-aged specialty.
