An easy-drinking pint, often with subtle flavors. Slightly malty in the balance sometimes with an initial soft toffee/caramel sweetness, and a slightly dry finish.

Aroma

Low to moderate malt aroma with caramel, toffee, and light toasty notes. Very low hop aroma. Low to moderate fruity esters. Clean and approachable with a characteristic subtle caramel sweetness.

Aussehen

Amber to copper, 9-14 SRM. Clear. Off-white to ivory head with moderate retention.

Low to moderate caramel malt sweetness with toffee notes. Low hop bitterness. Low fruity esters. Slightly dry finish. Balanced and easy-drinking with a characteristic Irish character.

Geschichte

A distinctly Irish beer tradition, differentiated from English ales by its characteristic caramel malt character and relatively low hop presence. Smithwick's (brewed in Kilkenny since 1710) is the oldest surviving example. The style became popular worldwide through the Irish pub culture that expanded globally in the late 20th century.
