Beer History
Anchor Steam
Anchor Brewing Company in San Francisco, founded in 1896 and revived by Fritz Maytag in 1965, is widely regarded as the first American craft brewery. Maytag's commitment to traditional, full-flavored brewing inspired an entire generation of craft brewers. Anchor Steam Beer is a California Common — a lager fermented at ale temperatures.
